One of the strangest innovations ever introduced into a video slot game was 3D technology in the purest form. That's not referring to icons that look like they are suspended in space, this refers to movie 3D technology that requires 3D glasses to properly view that game. That's what players got in 2011 when Microgaming introduced the Sterling Silver 3D slot game. If 3D glasses are available, the player will be so focused on the technology that they may be forgiving of some of the game's shortfalls.
Steeling Silver 3D is a coin collectors dream slot. The game is played with 5 reels and 25 pay lines. Players are required to select a coin value between $.01 and $.25 per line with up to 5 coins allowed per spin. Based on those numbers, this isn't a game that is going to change a player's financial life.
All of the game's symbols are done in sterling silver. The standard, low paying symbols include playing card icons of the 9 through Ace, plus the single sterling silver bar, the sterling silver coin, the sterling silver triple bar and the sterling silver wheel. A sterling silver game logo serves as the game's wild symbol. It is available to substitute for any of the other symbols except for the scatter symbol. If the wild symbol lands on the center reel in the center row, the player is awarded a random multiplier that ranges between 2X and 10X.
A sterling silver coin marked "scatter" acts as the game's primary scatter symbol. If the player lands at least two scatters, they earn a payout. If the land 3 or more, they get a payout, plus 15 free spins with a 2X multiplier on all winning spins in the free spins round. If a player wishes to risk their winnings from a particular winning spin, they may do so through the gamble feature, which allows them to risk all that spin's winnings for a return of 1:1 or 4:1.
Verdict: Never mind that the payouts are very low and the game lacks an interactive bonus feature, the fact players can view this game in 3D is worth the price of admission on its own. It was really cool of Microgaming to try to combine different technologies in order to present players with something they had never seen before. KUDOS. As for the game-play aspect of the game, there is not much to report.
