The online gambling industry has undoubtedly been one of the biggest growth areas in recent years and the upward trend looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

While the past few months have presented some tough challenges for the sector, the overall picture remains hugely positive for companies across the world.

The United States in particular is in the midst of an exciting period, with numerous states working towards offering licensed and regulated online gambling services.

This presents a huge opportunity for casino operators to grow their respective businesses and many have already benefited from the shifting legislative landscape in recent times.

Read on as we take a closer look at some of the latest industry developments and news stories from across the online gambling sector.

New Jersey Booming Online

New Jersey’s online gambling industry continues to burgeon, with the state enjoying yet another impressive month for revenues during July.

Online casino sites in NJ generated $87.4 million last month, a massive jump from the $37.43m recorded for the same period in 2019.

New Jersey online casinos have now smashed through the $2 billion lifetime barrier, highlighting just how huge the industry has become over the past couple of years.

Experts have predicted that August should be another massive month for online gambling, particularly in the sports betting sector as four of the five major leagues continue their seasons.

Exciting Times Ahead for Pennsylvania

Officials in Pennsylvania had been concerned that the rise in popularity of online gambling would have a negative impact on the state’s numerous land-based venues.

However, preliminary revenue figures for July 2020 have estimated that revenues in the Keystone State will once again top $200m from brick-and-mortar casinos.

While the land-based venues continue to sustain themselves, online casino options are also on track to keep growing in Pennsylvania.

Liver dealer games in blackjack and roulette will soon be part of the offering, with the gaming board recently granting licensing approval to Evolution New Jersey LLC.

Michigan Eager to Join the Party

Michigan is currently in the process of setting up its regulatory framework and licensing structure for the launch of online casino sites in the state.

Legislation was passed towards the end of 2019 to legalise online sports betting, casino games and poker, although interstate play will not be allowed for the latter.

Industry experts have predicted a bumper first financial year for Michigan once they get started, with revenues of $650m expected to be generated during the first 12 months.

Any of the 26 commercial and tribal casinos can partner with gambling operators to offer online services to Michigan’s estimated 10m population.
