Bonus Poker is one of the most popular video poker variants around, and unsurprisingly, Microgaming has done a brilliant job of bringing it to the online arena. Microgaming’s Bonus Poker looks and plays just like the video poker machines that you play in your favorite brick-and-mortar casino.
About Bonus Poker Video Poker
Bonus Poker is very similar to Jacks or Better with the primary difference being that four-of-a-kind is worth more, particularly for four aces and, to a lesser extent, four twos, threes or fours. To offset this advantage, the lower items on the pay table have been reduced in value. The overall RTP of Microgaming’s implementation of this format is 99.17 percent.
Gameplay on Microgaming video poker machines is rather straightforward. Select the coin size, which can be as small as $0.25 or as large as $5, and the select the number of coins per play. These machines allow one to five coins per hand, and since there is an added bonus at the jackpot level for a fifth coin, most players will want to wager at least $1.25. When the stake is set, click Deal to begin. There is a deal phase, a hold phase and then a re-deal phase.
After a win, the Double button activates, and if the player clicks on it, they play a 50-50 game of Hi-Lo against the computer. If they win, their winnings for that hand are doubled, but if they lose, they lose everything. This machine allows just one double attempt per hand, but there is no limit to how much can be won in a single successful double.
Microgaming’s Bonus Poker awards its highest payout on a royal flush: 4,000 coins. At the maximum bet, that payout is worth $20K. Since you could double it, the top possible payout is $40K, but we would not recommend a 50-50 bet with $20K in hand.
Graphics & Audio
The graphics and audio used by Microgaming here recreate the style that video poker players expect to find in their favorite casinos and pubs. If you have ever played video poker, this setup will be immediately familiar to you. It looks good, emphasizes readability and does not detract from the experience with unnecessary music and sound effects.
Bonus Poker is a fast, reliable video poker experience. The RTP is not as high as with All Aces but still quite good. Since Jacks or Better pays even on this machine, we also recommend doubling on those wins, which bumps your odds a bit.
